sheds, greenhouses pergolas, conservatories or small garages and
outbuildings. These are finished in a durable black powder coating. Most,
but not all of our 650+ designs are available in this size. This size is available with
two styles of
fixing bracket - see below.
MEDIUM
Measuring 21.5" across the cardinal points and suitable for use on
garages, stables, bungalows and other single storey buildings.
Available with a choice of finish and letter style, we offer over 600
designs, all individually made to order. These have a choice of 5
different fixings - see below. (The fixing options for these are not the
same as for petite weathervanes)
LARGE
Measuring 27.5" across the cardinal points and suitable for
use on large barns and other two storey buildings. Available
with a choice of finish and letter style, we offer over 600 designs, all
individually made to order. These have a choice of 5 different
fixings - see below. (The fixing options for these are not the same as for
petite weathervanes)
We
use only the best quality British steel. Motifs are cut to a very
high degree of accuracy using the latest Laser techniques. Each
weathervane is individually tested and balanced during manufacture.

Finish
Two basic finishes are available
Economy Finish
-Medium and Large size: All laser cut components are
first grit blasted to prevent oxidisation of the edges. A paint
finish is then applied, using a high solids zinc chromate semi matt black
paint applied by spray and dipping. .This is a good paint finish,
but weathervanes with an economy finish will need periodic attention,
usually when the house is re-painted. Opt for this finish where
longevity is not an issue or where the vane is accessible for re-painting.
Economy Finish - Petite Size
Grit blasting as above, iron phosphate dip and black polyester
powder coating
Deluxe: To
make our weathervanes truly weather-resistant we offer a de-luxe finish as follows:
Deluxe Finish
- all sizes: The weathervane is
plated with a layer of zinc to BS1706 and then passivated for extra
protection. The final finish is a black polyester powder coating.
This is the same finish as we use on our house signs and will withstand
severe weather conditions, even in coastal locations.
We would recommend the
Deluxe finish for coastal locations or for where the vane is installed in
an inaccessible position. It is worth bearing in mind that the extra
cost of the deluxe finish will almost certainly be less than the cost of
erecting ladders or scaffolding for re-painting.
A note about Powder
coating in general: Not all powder coating is the same - unless the base
metal has been given a thorough anti-corrosion treatment, such as zinc
plating, powder coating
will last no longer than a wet paint finish. There are also different
grades of powder - we can give further technical details of the materials
we use if required.
OTHER
OPTIONAL EXTRAS
Gilded weathervanes: We
can apply 23.5 carat gold leaf to the cardinal points (NSEW), or any other
part of the weathervane, at extra cost.
Heavyweight scrolls: The
scrollwork shown under the letter arm on the majority of the illustrations
on this website is made from 12mm x 3mm mild steel. We have recently
introduced an alternative form of scrollwork which is made from heavier
gauge material (6mm thick on large size weathervanes) and of a different
style. There is an extra charge for this style.

Standard Scroll |

Heavyweight scroll ( as
illustrated on banner style weathervanes, but available as optional
extra on any vane - click here for

Coloured Vanes: Any of our weathervanes can be painted
in in full colour, creating an almost 3D effect, using Dulux all weather
paint over the economy or
deluxe finishes detailed above. We can paint to
your colour specification
or work from photographs of dogs, horses etc. Costs vary, depending on the
amount of time involved; tractors, aircraft, trains etc will be higher
cost than the minimum quoted on the price list because of the extra detail
required - each nut , bolt and engine part must be added in just the right
place. Tractors are painted differently on each side, which also adds to the
cost. All painting comes from the studio of well known Suffolk artist Steven
Binks
Letters for overseas buyers:
Customers in French or German speaking countries can opt for NSEO or NSOW
instead of NSEW.
